Vision Therapy Helps Fix Lazy Eye

Vision Therapy Helps Fix Lazy Eye

At age 7, my son was struggling with reading and both of us were becoming very frustrated.  After getting his eyes tested, he was diagnosed with amblyopia (what is commonly referred to as “lazy eye”).His eye doctor told me that there was a limited window of opportunity to correct this problem, and we had to act immediately.

Not satisfied with the advice of patching his dominant eye for 3 hours a day and returning for an exam in 6 months, I did research and found The Vision Therapy Center.  I was impressed with the comprehensive exam and with the in- depth explanation of the results.

Vision therapy was a huge time and financial investment for our family, but the staff at The Vision Therapy Center made it as easy as possible. The therapist was energetic and easily engaged my son in his sessions. Snacks and the playroom made the wait time for the rest of my children fun, and they looked forward to coming. The homework assigned was great carryover during the week, and my son was able to take on the responsibility of completing it by himself. He felt a tremendous amount of accomplishment at the end of his treatment.

We are now 2 years post-treatment, and we couldn't be happier with results.

He considers himself a reader, and reads at two levels above his current grade level.    His hitting and fielding skills have dramatically improved when playing baseball, and he got a bull's eye on the shooting range at Cub Scout camp.   His violin playing also improved because he can track the notes well while reading lines of music, something he struggled with before.

Both of his eyes are working together now, and we have Dr. Knueppel and her staff to thank.   I would not hesitate to recommend The Vision Therapy Center to anyone.  My only regret is that I didn't catch his problem earlier so therapy could have been started sooner.

I can confidently say that my son's academic success was secured by The Vision Therapy Center.
