Wisconsin Vision Therapy Success – Andrew Advances!

Andrew's Vision Therapy was a tremendous success.

Angela’s son, Andrew, had been diagnosed with ADHD in the spring of 2010.   It was during a routine exam with his optometrist that summer that he indicated to me that Andrew had “poor visual focus.”  He referred Anglela to The Vision Therapy Center, Inc. to see if they could help him out.

She was a little concerned with getting involved in yet another type of therapy, since Andrew had been taking part in many types of developmental therapies since he was a toddler.  She would soon be surprised at how much Andrew would advance with his school performance, particularly reading.

Vision therapy helps high schooler

Vision therapy can help high schoolers like Kaitlin.

Vision therapy can help high schoolers too.

A success story from Caitlin Rach, a client at The Vision Therapy Center:

In 9th grade I started to get headaches in school, especially when reading for long periods of time. We thought it was just time for me to get some reading glasses. I went to the eye doctor and they said I needed to go through vision therapy.

I knew what this was because my sister previously went through it. Honestly, I was dreading it. I was a busy girl. I had school, sports, and other activities. But after the six months, with the results, it was definitely worth it. (more…)

Why Christopher No Longer Struggles in School

Christopher is back on track.

Christopher is back on track.

A success story from a client at The Vision Therapy Center:

Christopher’s story begins like the stories of so many kids with vision problems.

From the time he was very small, we knew something was not quite right, yet neither his teachers nor we could quite put a finger on what it was.  Visits to several medical professionals got us nowhere until we had the good fortune of being referred to The Vision Therapy Center.

Strange symptoms

As a toddler, Christopher did not seem to enjoy being read to.  He would quickly get antsy and rarely made it to the end of even the shortest story. (more…)

Taylor’s Triumph: Another Vision Therapy Success Story

Taylor

A triumphant Taylor, pictured with Dr. Knueppel, completes vision therapy.

A success story from a client at The Vision Therapy Center:

I would like to begin by saying “THANK YOU!” I can’t begin to express my gratitude to Dr. Knueppel and Cindy M. (Taylor’s Therapist) for your magnitude of consideration and patience.

Taylor began 1st grade two years ago. At that time her teacher said, “There is just something about Taylor I can’t put my finger on.” She seemed to “zone out” and look into space when given more than one task at a time to handle. Often she would look to others after directions were given to see what they were doing. Taylor hated coloring and had a very hard time learning to write. She could not make eye contact with anyone she spoke with.

The summer before second grade we had an experience with Taylor. She had to use the restroom during halftime at her brother’s flag football game. We sent her directly across the field where the restrooms were located. (This was not a stadium or full size field.) When she came out she turned right, then left and began to walk. She kept walking and walking. I ran across the field over to her to find her in tears. She was completely lost. She could not remember how to get back to us. (more…)

Sibiling Success: Two Success Stories in One Family

A success story from a client at The Vision Therapy Center:

Both my boys have gone through vision therapy and have developed into AWESOME readers. Please understand there is way more to vision than eyesight, so don’t get stuck in the trap of saying “My child’s vision is good, we had that checked.” We were created in a complex way by an amazing God.

My 10 year old had glasses prescribed, which we found he did not need after vision therapy. The doctor who prescribed them told me there is NOTHING to that ‘vision therapy stuff.’ I DISAGREE!!!!

Ben’s Vision Therapy Success Story

Ben used to see double. Not anymore.

Ben used to see double. Not anymore.

A success story from a client at The Vision Therapy Center:

My son, Ben (age 7 yrs old), would often tell me he could see double. In jest, I would say, “I can do that too.” But what I wasn’t realizing was Ben was not “making” his eyes see double like I was. When Ben started reading, I noticed his left eye would go out to the left as he read. I still didn’t realize it was a real vision problem. After all he was able to read fine.

One day I decided everybody in our family needed to have an eye exam. We all went to the same optometrist for our appointments. Ben was called in first. The doctor came out and called me and my husband in. He said, “I want you to see what your son’s eyes are doing.” He then proceeded to hold a “blocker” in front of his eye and we could see his eye “go out” time after time.

We then were told about The Vision Therapy Center through our school. (more…)

Once “shut down”, today Alex thrives

Alex Stuessy

Alex Stuessy

A success story from a client at The Vision Therapy Center:

As a baby, Alex was so happy, even when he was sick. He smiled and laughed often. I never thought twice about him not responding to the musical bear mobile that hung over his crib! Every three months after birth, we would go to his healthy check with his pediatrician. He was always “right on target.” But how did they REALLY know?

At age one he was walking and even talking a bit. Age two was great, no ‘Terrible Two’s.’ When Alex was three he was saying his ABC’s. At age four, I put him in preschool.

This is when Alex started to shut down. He couldn’t use a pencil, use scissors, or color or draw a picture. He was not able to even trace over his name. (more…)

Vision Therapy Helps End Writing Frustration

Steve, Danny and Julia Krueger are all smiles after Danny's vision therapy.

A success story from a client at The Vision Therapy Center.

Danny was diagnosed by Dr. Knueppel as having a convergence disorder when he was 8 years old. His eyes were working independently and not forming a single image.

His symptoms were not typical from what I have read. He was an early reader, loved learning, reading and had great hand writing. We homeschooled Danny starting at age 4 using the Sonlight curriculum and he excelled.  Since he was young he did most of his work orally.  We took many field trips and did lots of science experiments.  Math was done using spaceships and a stairway.  This worked well with his kinesthetic learning style.  We really didn’t have any learning or vision related concerns until he turned 8. Vision Therapy Helped Relieve His Migraines

Congratulations, Wesley!

Congratulations, Westley!

A success story from a client at The Vision Therapy Center:

Migraines were becoming a way of life for Westley. It is a good thing that we homeschooled because Westley would have a migraine five to seven days per week. We did as much school work as we could, and then he laid down in bed with a pillow over his head.

Of course, we tried everything from getting his eyes checked, to blood tests, an MRI, and neurologist appointments. The worst thing of all was the fact that there is no migraine pain medication for a person under the age of 12.

Westley was 8 years old when we finally found The Vision Therapy Center. (more…)
