Meet Dr. Brandon Begotka
He may be new to you, but Dr. Brandon Begotka certainly is a familiar face at The Vision Therapy Center – especially to our recent patients.
Dr. Begotka recently completed his second year of practice with us. A developmental optometrist, Dr. Begotka has spent the past two years diagnosing, treating and – best of all – succeeding with patients. And while this may be the first time you’ve heard of him, we’ve known about him for years.
Back when Dr. Begotka was interning while attending Illinois College of Optometry, he first developed his passion for vision therapy. “I found it fascinating how much vision problems could impact learning and people’s lives,” he said.
He had been introduced to vision therapy in school, (all optometrists receive some training on vision therapy) but it wasn’t until he arrived at The Vision Therapy Center for his internship did he realize how much he had to learn. “Working with Dr. Knueppel really opened my eyes,” he said. “And it piqued my interest.”
Dr. Begotka followed his instincts and after completing school, he joined our staff. His first two years have been a whirlwind of activity. Besides becoming acclimated to a new setting and new patients, Dr. Begotka also became the President of the Milwaukee Optometric Society.
But he soon learned that the rapid pace was not part of becoming acclimated to a new position. It’s simply how things work at The Vision Therapy Center, and the reason why he wanted to work here in the first place.
“We are always discovering new things to help with our vision therapy,” he said. “And Dr. Knueppel is right at the forefront. It’s really an exciting place to be.”
Not only has he found the job to be rewarding and challenging, he’s also been impressed by the quality of The Vision Therapy Center’s therapists. “They’re extremely dedicated, that’s one thing,” he said. “But I was really pleasantly surprised by the level of knowledge of vision therapy and their commitment to their patients.”
His highlights from his first two years with us are many. While in college, his internship with The Vision Therapy Center lasted only three months. It was a span of time which didn’t allow him to see a patient from start of therapy to finish. “It was very rewarding to finally complete the full therapy program with a number of patients,” he said.
Dr. Begotka has also been surprised by the diversity of patients. “I’ve seen patients from Ireland and Egypt here at the clinic,” he noted.
A musician and an avid outdoorsman, Dr. Begotka’s active lifestyle and easy-going sense of humor have already made him a favorite with the younger patients. We applaud him on a highly successful first two years with The Vision Therapy Center, and look forward to many more in the future.
