Vision Therapy Helps End Writing Frustration

A success story from a client at The Vision Therapy Center. Danny was diagnosed by Dr. Knueppel as having a convergence disorder when he was 8 years old. His eyes were working independently and not forming a single image.

His symptoms were not typical from what I have read. He was an early reader, loved learning, reading and had great hand writing. We homeschooled Danny starting at age 4 using the Sonlight curriculum and he excelled. Since he was young he did most of his work orally. We took many field trips and did lots of science experiments. Math was done using spaceships and a stairway. This worked well with his kinesthetic learning style. We really didn’t have any learning or vision related concerns until he turned 8.

My concern for him started when we transitioned from printing to writing. He was frustrated and struggled with cursive writing. I tried several styles and techniques of teaching but could not make it easy for him. One of the forums at Sonlight suggested we test him for vision disorders.

I found Dr. Knueppel, had Danny tested and he went through 9 months of therapy. Since doing therapy his writing has become painless and fluid. He actually enjoys journaling, reads a lot more for pleasure (and says it is easier), has better depth perception (basketball and swim coaches have commented)and enjoys art. I am glad we could eliminate his writing frustration. Thank you!!
